OLLY HAVE PLAYED OVER 20 YEARS FOR ME
*****
My History
I started playing
5-a-side when I was a Telephone Engineer; we played in a league that was
run on a Sunday night. A player named Graham Clements that played for one
of the other teams, played for Rediffusion on a Wednesday night, their
goalkeeper was moving to another team, which was Ashford Sports, and that
is how I started playing.
I played for
Rediffusion from 1978-1983 they had some good players, Kevin Cannon, Dave
Bible, Dalton Perkins, Kevin Rayner and also Matt Stanley, who went on to
play for my teams. We won lots of cups, but never won the League, lost it
by a point or goal difference.
In 1984 the mates I
played for on a Sunday night, had a team in the Wednesday League, called
Golden Ball, their Manager Ian Brenchley was
moving to Brighton, so I said I would take over running the
team, which I have been doing to this day.
The team name has
changed 4 times, Golden Ball, South Eastern, and Churchill’s and now
it is Locomotive.
I have had a lot of players
playing for me (see Players page). The longest serving player is Gary
Holloway, who joined me in 1984-85 season, and
only gave up playing full time for me because he changed his job, and now
does shift work.
I had Lee McRobert who played for Ashford Town and Millwall Fc. And I also had
George Magri, brother of the boxer Charlie Magri.
The best striker I had
is still playing for me, but now dropped to defence, Eddie Fitzgerald,
but Stuart Daniel, who is now up front, could turn out just
as good?
Because I have
some great years playing 5-a-side football I wanted to give something back,
which is why I am on the 5-a-side committee, helping as much as possible to
run the league.
